Best Upcoming Co-op Games in 2026 and Beyond

Though gamers value the calm solitude of an RPG or the excitement of a competitive shooter, nothing compares to the delight of playing games together with friends. And judging by the upcoming co-op games lined up for 2026, there should be plenty of new reasons to get the group together.

Yet, for all the demand, choosing a suitable co-op title is not always simple. Everyone has to own it, appreciate it, and, most importantly, have time to play. Its worth is indisputable. Top cooperative games like It Takes Two, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Diablo IV prove that co-op gaming isn’t just fun—it sells.

Still, co-op gaming has a bright future ahead. With so many exciting releases on the horizon, it can be tough to know which ones are worth the wait. Including extreme action, immersive role-playing, tactical experiences, and casual pleasure for every kind of player, we have compiled a roster of the best co-op games. We've reviewed and updated this list in late 2026 to cover co-op releases worth watching throughout 2026.

Key Takeaways

  • This updated list covers upcoming co-op games in 2026 and beyond, with release details, multiplayer options, and Steam links to wishlist each title.
  • Expect everything from major sequels like Outward 2 and Wo Long 2 to small-team projects like Hospital Hustle and Brutal Cube.
  • The selection spans survival RPGs, co-op horror, puzzle-platformers, and chaotic multiplayer games built around questionable teamwork.
  • We've also included recently released favorites like Split Fiction and Borderlands 4 for groups that want something to play right now.

Why Co-op Gaming Keeps Growing

A few years ago, co-op was often treated as an extra feature. Now, entire games are built around the idea that playing alone would defeat the point.

Cross-play helped get things moving. Friends no longer need identical hardware to play together, and streaming gave multiplayer games something traditional marketing couldn't buy: thousands of people watching a group of idiots fail spectacularly at a simple task.

That's partly why friendslop games have taken off. Small studios don't need enormous worlds or cinematic storytelling when unpredictable physics and terrible teamwork can keep players entertained for hours. We've explored this shift in our friendslop games analysis.

But chaos isn't the only direction co-op is heading. Developers are experimenting with asymmetrical roles, making players responsible for different parts of the same problem. Persistent shared worlds take a different approach: what your group builds, destroys, or discovers stays there for the next session.

And that's where the next batch of co-op releases gets interesting.

Best Upcoming Co-op Games in 2026 and Beyond

The Halloway Haunting

Multiplayer: Online co-op (1–4 players), local split-screen
Platform(s): PC (Windows, macOS, Linux)
Release: October 26, 2026
Developer(s): New Bones Studios
Publisher: New Bones Studios

The Halloway Haunting makes a fairly ordinary task (restoring electricity to an abandoned building) more challenging, with a murderous Wraith in the way. Up to four players can investigate places around the town of Halloway, solve puzzles, and get the power running before the creature picks them off.

One investigation takes you through an abandoned hospital, and another sends you into a decaying aquarium. It isn’t the biggest problem, though. When someone dies, that’s when the real trouble starts. Their inventory remains where they fell, and your team might not have the key they need to escape. Going back for it could save the investigation or cost another life.

The Halloway Haunting seems to appeal most to horror groups who like 4-player co-op games where splitting up is always appealing but never a good idea.

Hospital Hustle

Multiplayer: Online co-op (1–4 players)
Platform(s): PC (Windows)
Release: TBA
Developer(s): Suspicious Entertainment
Publisher: Suspicious Entertainment

A patient arrives with a lamp stuck somewhere it absolutely shouldn’t be. No one asks questions. There are six more people waiting; someone needs resuscitation, and the only person who knows where the medication is has wandered off.

Hospital Hustle gives up to four players an entire hospital to mismanage. There's no sensible division of labor, either. You might start your shift running diagnostic tests, get dragged into an emergency halfway through, and return to find the waiting room has become a medical catastrophe. At some point, someone should probably check on that guy with the lamp.

Care for enough patients, and you can afford new equipment, more rooms, and eventually a bigger emergency department. More space sounds helpful until you realize that your staff consists of the same four people who could barely handle a small clinic.

It’s essentially a workplace comedy in which every employee is overworked and underqualified. If it sounds like fun, you better wishlist the game here. At least there’s no actual medical license to lose.

SONIC PICO PARK

Multiplayer: Online and local co-op (2–8 players)
Platform(s): PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2
Release: November 12, 2026
Developer(s): TECOPARK
Publisher: PICO PARK Inc.

Sonic is famous for going fast. Unfortunately, in SONIC PICO PARK, he's stuck waiting for seven other people to figure out how a bridge works.

This crossover takes the wonderfully chaotic puzzles of PICO PARK and adds Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and their abilities into the mix. The Summer Game Fest demo gave a pretty good taste of the madness. One puzzle required everyone to collect a coin before taking damage, while another had players piling on top of each other to help Sonic reach higher ground. Simple ideas, until eight people start shouting completely different instructions.

Of all the new co-op games that are aimed at larger groups of people, SONIC PICO PARK has a great point of view: you have the skills of iconic Sonic characters, but you are only as capable as your least coordinated teammate.

Hela: of Mice & Magic

Multiplayer: Online co-op (up to 4 players), local split-screen
Platform(s): PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2
Release: December 1, 2026
Developer(s): Windup Games
Publisher: Knights Peak, Boltray Games (China), Shochiku

Being a tiny mouse sounds adorable until you realize that a puddle is practically a lake and an ordinary tree might take several minutes to climb. That's the scale of Hela: of Mice & Magic, a cozy open-world adventure inspired by Scandinavian nature and folklore.

You play as one of the familiars of a kindly witch who's fallen ill. To help her, you'll venture into the wilderness. Thankfully, mice aren't entirely helpless here. Each carries a magical frog backpack that lets them do what no ordinary rodent could.

The co-op gets especially entertaining back at the witch's cottage. Imagine four tiny mice attempting to prepare a potion, with one tossing mushrooms into a cauldron while the others manage the fire.

Already attracting attention among upcoming co-op games 2026, Hela has a confirmed release date of December 1. Whether it becomes one of the most wishlisted games on Steam remains to be seen, but its mix of open-world exploration, playful movement, and surprisingly hands-on potion-making gives it plenty of appeal.

Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember

Multiplayer: Online co-op (up to 3 players)
Platform(s): PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2
Release: March 4, 2027
Developer(s): Team NINJA
Publisher: Koei Tecmo

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty was already pretty good at punishing players for mistimed deflections. That obsession is maintained in the sequel but finally gives you somewhere else to go when a boss beats you into the ground for the twentieth time.

Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember has abandoned linear levels for an open world in a demon-infested version of China’s Three Kingdoms era. You can explore off the battlefield, raid enemy outposts, buy equipment, and raise Battle Flags to have better chances of beating harder foes. There are even tiny squirrel demons dressed as dragons that reward you for successfully parrying them. Yes, you can pet them.

Combat has been totally overhauled. The new Focus mechanics give you more defensive options. You need Spirit to survive and mashing buttons is still an excellent way to get yourself killed.

Among the upcoming co-op sequels, Wo Long 2 looks like a good option for players looking for hard-fighting martial arts combat but not to be dragged through another set of tight corridors again. Online co-op can be played with up to three players, but the multiplayer experience for co-op has not yet been demonstrated.

Brutal Cube

Multiplayer: Online co-op
Platform(s): PC
Release: TBA
Developer(s): Woziva
Publisher: Woziva

Brutal Cube is survival in its rawest form. It has the frigid, unforgiving walls of a continually shifting box without a sprawling open world or safe zones. You could be searching a poorly lit corridor for supplies. Suddenly, the whole layout bends, closing off exits and forcing you to rethink your course.

Inside, the cube is a maze of mechanical traps, environmental hazards, and strange abnormalities, seemingly studying you just as much as you're attempting to understand them. Outside, the landscape provides resources and possible rescue, but it also brings wandering predators and erratic weather that make every trip a measured risk.

When existence depends on snap judgments and limited resources, trust is a luxury. While cooperation could prolong your life, desperation has a tendency to turn friends into opportunists. Would you share your findings or keep them for yourself? Knowing that larger benefits carry more risks, would you venture farther into uncharted territory? Brutal Cube lets the cube itself control your fate, changing and reacting as you try to withstand anything it throws at you.

Stage Fright

Multiplayer: 2-player co-op mode, available online or via local split-screen
Platform(s): PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows
Release: TBA
Developer(s): Ghost Town Games Ltd.
Publisher: Hello Games

Stage Fright takes the frantic, friendship-testing fun of Overcooked! and turns it into a spooky, puzzle-filled adventure where communication is everything. Before time runs out, you and a friend will address escape room-style problems, switching switches, pulling levers, and completing mind-bending puzzles instead of cutting onions and averting kitchen flames. Though there will be plenty of Overcooked-style anarchy, the beautiful, creepy atmosphere will combine elements of Luigi's Mansion with a playful ghost narrative.

Ghost Town Games has fine-tuned gameplay to perfection, making this a pick-up-and-play experience that’s instantly engaging yet full of hidden depth. You’ll switch between characters, navigate two unique perspectives, and piece together a mysterious storyline in a world that feels alive with secrets. While the puzzles test your brains more than your reflexes, don’t expect a stress-free experience—miscommunication and sheer panic will still lead to plenty of laugh-out-loud failures.

Outward 2

Multiplayer: Online and local split-screen co-op (2 players)
Platform(s): PC
Release: February 8, 2027 (Early Access)
Developer(s): Nine Dots Studio
Publisher: Nine Dots Publishing, Gamersky Games

Imagine you finally owned a house in a fantasy RPG but were framed for murder, kicked out of town, and left in the wilderness with an ice pick and absolutely no survival skills. That is roughly how your adventure in Outward 2 begins. And somehow, things get worse from there.

Nine Dots Studio isn’t so much interested in making you feel like the chosen one. You are just a regular traveler in the dangerous world of Aurai, where drinking from a river can make you sick, camping in the wrong place can get you attacked, and even a seemingly harmless bird may end your expedition.

Also in the sequel are two-player co-op modes, both online and split-screen. The wilderness will be a little less painful with a friend, but now you’ll have two backpacks, twice as many chances to make good decisions, and twice as many chances to pack and then make terrible ones.

Outward 2 is fast becoming an RPG for players who enjoy winning every little victory. Sometimes that victory is defeating a monster. Sometimes it’s just getting back to town with your tent.

Gears of War: E-Day

Multiplayer: 2-player online co-op
Platform(s): Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows
Release: October 6, 2026
Developer(s): The Coalition
Publisher: XBox Game Studios

Gears of War: E-Day in its most basic form, is a hefty, visceral combat with devastating close-quarters battles and the unmistakable chainsaw bayonet cutting through flesh like it's 2006 all over. I's an opportunity for Gears to go back to its action-horror origins with a campaign trading the high-tech war machines of later games for desperate, improvised survival.

E-Day has the potential to be the best thing the series has seen in years, with rumors of a Beast Mode 2.0 allowing players to operate a larger spectrum of Locust monstrosities and a multiplayer experience that might bring back the gritty intensity of Gears 1's execution-based firefights.
