At a glance,
Mouse: P.I. For Hire is absolutely going to trigger the “yo, this is Cuphead feat Doom” reaction, and honestly, fair enough. The rubber-hose animation is the immediate hook. Still, the real sauce is that it plays like a proper old-school FPS, with dashes, double-jumps, shotguns, boss fights, hidden rooms, and a whole lot of movement-heavy havoc. As a game release to keep on your radar, this one already feels like it has sleeper-hit potential written all over it.
The other nice surprise is that it is not just style bait. There is an actual noir detective setup here, complete with clues, political weirdness, secret labs, and a city that seems way messier than the cartoon visuals first suggest. So while the art is obviously doing a lot in the first impression, this could end up being one of those titles people show up for because of the look and stay for because it is just ridiculously fun to play.
